Kason the CASTer

Background and Character Stats

Background: Born in the Roche Asteroid Field, on Var'on'vil'iin'nio 12, one of the smaller asteroids in the system. There are about 15,000 other verpine living on the habitat with built-in Gravity Generators and Shields. The asteroid has plenty of shipyards and mining in the belt is extensive.

I decided to move on and became an Information Broker for a small group of pirates working in the Sarkosa Sector in the Outer Rim. I have safe houses in various places that I can access when in need. That are setup as business fronts and safe houses. The farm I setup on Tatooine next to the Darklighters is where I live. They run stuff into the Black Market for the pirates.

I have my own ship when I'm not running around in the bulk transport. The Nubian L-Type is just for the droids and me when we go on information runs. Otherwise, I leave it in the hands of Captain Repati and crew.

For the last 25 years I've been working on the Bulk Transport, the Phalynx with Captain Repati, as Chief Engineer. I have made thousands of modifications to the transport to make it more efficient. With me are Snoopy and The Twins.

Talent: Nautical Craft Piloting: Includes surface craft and submersibles [does not have this skill yet]

DCR (Droid Control Rating): 9/10[13/15] #
Manual: 18/20[26/30] #
Control: 9/10[13/15] #
Telepresence: 4/5[6/7] #
Skills used in telepresence through a CAST cannot be used at a level greater than the CAST ops skill.
GM NOTE: Second #'s work as long as neural interface implant is operational. All fractions round down.
#: numbers in brackets denotes neural implant bonus. This also shows the maximum number of droids that a single CASTer can control based on the level of control selected. To take over a droid requires a Very Difficult CASTer roll. Once a link has been established it can be reestablished with an Easy CASTer roll if it is broken or ended.
All fractions round down.

Equipment: Concussion Rifle (5D stun damage, ammo: 100, range: 20-25/50/80), K PDS, Inc. SVT-300 Stun Cloak (Stun Damage: 5D, Skill: Melee Combat. Ammo: 3 (before power cell is temporarily depleted; holds a total of 8 charges), Difficulty: Moderate (Easy if target is attacking). Does not work through armor. The stun cloak has a micro cell that recycles in three minutes after the initial three charges are used. The cell can be powered up from any external generator in two rounds. A target must make a Difficult Melee Combat or Brawling Combat roll to avoid contact with the cloak. The "K" above stands for Koromondian.), Scout Multipack, Utility Belt, Tool Kits [only one may be carried at a time](Computer, Droid, Vehicle, Security), Tools (Hydrospanner, Power Scanner, Beam Drill, Fusion Cutter, Work Light, Plasma Welder, Vibropick, Power Prybar, Laser Welder, Fusion Cutter: 3D-6D damage, Range: 0-.5m)

Cybernetics:
Neural Interface Linkage for CAST: +1D to CAST Ops, +1D for skills used through telepresence, 50% increase in DCR rating.
Cyberarm; left: Contains computer interface port through index finger. Port can attach to any standard terminal and interact with installed arm computer. Power: 2D, Memory: 12D

Special Abilities:
Body Armor: The Verpine's natural chitinous plate armor gives them a +1D bonus against physical attacks.
Organic Telecommunication: Because Verpine can send and receive radio waves through their antenna, they have the ability to communicate with other members of their species and with specially-tuned comlinks. The range is very limited when they are activating individually (1 km) but greatly increases when in the hive (covers the entire Roche asteroid field)
Technical Bonus: All Verpine receive a +2D bonus when using their Technical skills.

CASTer Information:
CASTers are Droid-control specialists. They are much in demand as operators of installation security systems, because one talented CASTer can take the place of several live security guards.

New TECH Skill: CAST Ops
This skill represents the training that a CASTer receives to allow him to "multi-task" his attention span. Each CASTer has a Drone Control Rating (DCR) equal to the whole dice in this skill. For example, a CASTer with a skill total of 4D+2 in CAST use would have a DCR of 4.

Cybernetic Artificial Sensory Transceiver (CAST)
The CAST (Cybernetic Artificial Sensory Transceiver) device allows its user to simultaneously supervise, control and coordinate a large number droids in a much more efficient manner than by simple voice communication.
A CAST consists of a headset, a pair of gloves, and the main transmitter unit the attachments plug into. The headset includes a visor display, speaker and audio pickup, and is the main output device for the user. The gloves allow fine input, as well as permitting a much greater degree of detail in transmitted instructions. The CAST operates by creating a high-bandwidth data link between a droid and the CAST unit. This connection receives sensory data from the droid, and transmits data and control instructions back to the droid.

A CASTer can monitor (minimal interaction, mainly just observing, or giving orders) double his DCR in droids. The droids would be running off of their own programming at this control level.

The CASTer can exercise control (manual control of major functions only, similar to a good modem RC car) over any number of droids equal to his DCR.

Actual "telepresence", manual control of all droid functions, can be maintained over only half the DCR in droids.

If the CASTer is working with half or less of the capability for a given control level, he maintains awareness of his body and surroundings, and can act normally. At 2/3 of capability, the CASTer can move at up to their basic move, but cannot perform any other actions that require a skill or attribute roll. The person also has only limited sensation of their body. At full capacity, the CASTer is completely immersed; they have no awareness of their body, and can do nothing but operate the CAST.

Description: built by the Trade Federation, the Loader Droid was used for loading cargo aboard its freighters. Due to the number of these droids built and the fact that they aren't combat droids, a lot of them have survived the fall of the Trade Federation and have since appeared on the open market. Since they were designed to operate aboard freighters away from droid control ships, they have their own droid brains, which, although simplistic, have developed individual personalities over the years. While they are not the best of conversationalists many of their owners have grown quite attached to them.

Description: The TL-15 is a new vessel created by Draymak, Inc. to counter the YT Series of light freighters. However the extremely high price has meant that sales have been poor. The excellent appointments throughout the vessel, and the extremely cool dark blue hull mean that it is worth every credit of its price. With excellent armaments, and plenty of cargo space to modify, it has become popular with those that have credits to blow or invest. The TL-15 is an excellent vessel, which deserves more widespread use and purchase, but is unlikely to see it as even its second hand price exceeds that of its competition by many times. The large "weapon-looking" protrusion on the Port side is actually the ship's sensors.

The ship has a hidden armory that can hold several rifles, pistols and grenades, as well as the ammo. The under-floor Secret Cargo areas are each the size of the armory.
