Description:
H'nemthe, sometimes referred to as H'nemtheans, are bipedal reptilian humanoids with four horns and ridges of bone and skin on
their faces. They have long, gently curving noses, three-fingered hands, and blue-gray skin. Their homeworld and native language
are also named H'nemthe.
Physiology
H'nemthe cones are an adaptation to the extreme weather patterns and variable lighting conditions on their homeworld. These cones
are able to sense heat differences in their environment as well as the emotional state of other beings. Though their cones thus
acted similarly to those of the Gotals, making them efficient hunters, this is an example of convergent evolution rather than
proof of common ancestry.
Physical Description:
A H'nemthe has blue-gray skin, a double set of cheekbones, a gently curves nose, three fingers on each hand, and a head crowned
with four short cones. The average adult stands about 1.7 meters tall. The majority of H'nemthe encountered are male.
Homeworld:
H'nemthe is an ORT world with three moons. The moons' collective gravitational force creates unsettled weather conditions across
the entire planet. Scientists believe that the H'nemthe evolved their heat-sensing cones to help them forage for food in the
inclement weather.
Language:
H'nemthe speak a language comprised primarily of squeaks, squeals, and other noises that other sentients find irritating. The
written form of H'nemthe uses a wispy, contiguous line to make letters that string together to form words.
Age:
H'nemthe can live up to 97 years old, but this is rare. Normal life span is around 85 years.
Biology and Culture:
The highly structured H'nemthe society is shaped by the natural ratio of the H'nemthe sexes: only one female is born for every
twenty males. It is unknown whether this variance is caused by a genetic defect in the species. Despite this imbalance, their
culture is based primarily on the search for true love and the creation of new life, which they consider to be the ultimate in
spiritual fulfillment.
When a female H'nemthe consummates her relationship with a male, she eviscerates him with her knife-shaped tongue, considering it
a proof of love. As a result, male and female H'nemthe mate very rarely, and then only in the case of true love. Since virgin
females are rare, they live a sheltered existence, and are rarely allowed to leave their homeworld. Strict traditions also
restrict virgin females to a vegetarian diet, ensuring that their first lover's flesh was the first meat they tasted. The males
of the species are timid and spend a considerable amount of their adult lives looking for true love.
Many outsiders consider the deadly H'nemthe mating rituals to be a bizarre contradiction in an otherwise peaceful society.
H'nemthe philosophers disagree, however, pointing out that life coming from death is the way of the universe. In their beliefs,
death is merely a change in form that paves the way for future generations. H'nemthe believe that a male killed after mating would
receive the ultimate spiritual reward by going on to the netherworld to act as a spiritual guardian for his offspring.
History:
One of the best-known H'nemthe was M'iiyoom Onith, one of the rare virgin females to leave her homeworld. In Chalmun's Cantina on
Tatooine, she fell in love with the Gotal Feltipern Trevagg, who, to his detriment, was unaware of the nature of H'nemthe mating
rituals. Yamnoss was present in the same cantina, during a night shift a few months after, when a mandatory curfew was issued by
Imperial decree. A H'nemthe was a member of Spiz's hoodlums.
A community of H'nemthe live on Cona, the Arconan homeworld.
Adventurers:
H'nemthe males seldom seek glory or adventure, but if they are repeatedly rejected as mates they may roam the galaxy instead of
taking their own lives. H'nemthe heroes are typically male and can belong to any class, although fringers and tech specialists
are the most common.
Special Abilities:
Heat Sense: The ability to detect heat sources up to 30 meters away with their cones
Emotional Sense: The ability to detect emotions in others up to 20 meters away.
Natural Weapon (females only): Females have a razor-edged tongue that can be used as a
weapon. It causes Str+1D+1 damage, but has only a .5 meter range. This form of attack is only used in the most dire of
circumstances.
Special Skills:
Search: H'nemthe gain +1D to Search due to their cones.
Diplomacy: This species gains +2 to all slill roles involving diplomatic relations with any
other species they encounter.
